Do you have some hearing loss and need assistance using the telephone?  The Texas CapTel service may be able to help you!  CapTel is a service that uses voice recognition technology to display word for word captions on the screen of the telephone, allowing you to hear and read everything the person on the other line says to you!

Texas CapTel service is free for Texas Residents who have a CapTel telephone.  This telephone can either be obtained free through a state program or purchased for a discount.

Texas has a voucher program that provides financial assistance for the purchase of specialized assistive equipment or service for individuals whose disability interferes with their ability to access the telephone network.  The program is called STAP, (Specialized Telecommunications Assistance Program).

STAP limits each person to one coucher for every five years, as well as, one piece of equipment per household.  If you already have equipment from the STAP program within the past five years, you may not qualify for additonal equipment until the five year term is completed.
